With three weeks left to play let’s take a look at how things are shaping up in the AFC playoff race
AFC Division Leaders
Indianapolis Colts (13-0): The Colts have already clinched home field throughout the playoffs and are now only playing to keep their players sharp and to go for the perfect season.
San Diego Chargers (10-3): The Chargers are on fire right now and after starting the season 2-3 now sit in position to not only win the AFC West but also have a first round bye. They can put some separation between themselves and the Bengals with a win against them Sunday.
Cincinnati Bengals (9-4): The Bengals appear to be safe to make the playoffs as all they need is a win or a Ravens loss. However they can take over the second spot and a first round bye if they can beat the Chargers this weekend.
New England Patriots (8-5): The Patriots hold a slim 1 game lead over both the Jets and the Dolphins. They will need to continue to win if they want to take back the division crown.
AFC Wild Card Contenders:
This is where things start to get interesting as there are four teams tied for that last playoff spot and two others waiting for them to slip up.
Denver Broncos (8-5): Who would have thought the Broncos would have to sweat out the final few weeks of the season after that 6-0 start. They still have the top wild card spot in their possession but there are so many teams right behind them that they will have to win games if they want to secure a playoff spot.
Miami Dolphins (7-6): The Dolphins put themselves in a good position after beating the Jaguars on Sunday, that win could become critical if they and the Jags finished with the same record. They have three winnable games against teams below them in the standings.
Jacksonville Jaguars (7-6): The Jaguars suffered a big loss to the Dolphins and now have to take on the Colts and Patriots before closing with the Browns. They might be looking left watching the playoffs at home this year.
Baltimore Ravens (7-6): The Ravens have a real good chance at winning their next three games and if they do they will probably sneak into the playoffs. They have the Bears, Steelers, and Raiders and cannot afford to slip up.
New York Jets (7-6): The Jets remain in contention despite their offensive struggles. They will need some because all of the teams with the same record are ahead of them. They close with the Falcons, Colts, and Bengals so things don’t look too promising for the Jets.
Pittsburg Steelers, Houston Texans, and Tennessee Titans (6-7): If any of the above teams slip up these three will hope to gain on the opportunity. The Steelers will have their chances because they get to play the Ravens and Dolphins, but first they must find a way to beat the Packers this weekend. The Texans also get a chance to play teams that are ahead of them and also get the Rams this week. After that are the Dolphins and Patriots. The Titans probably have the toughest road of these three teams with the Dolphins, Chargers and Seahawks on the schedule.
Predictions:
Colts
Chargers
Patriots
Bengals
Broncos
Ravens
